Useful information on doctors and hospitals
Unexpectedly needing medical attention while on holiday in Ibiza can be stressful, especially with little children. However, Ibiza has great doctors and hospitals, such as Hospital Can Misses and Clinica Nuestra Señora del Rosario.
Can Misses is a public hospital, and residents of the EU can receive treatment by showing their passport and insurance card from their home country or their European Health Insurance Card. Rosario is a private clinic, so you will need to have private health insurance.
In case of a medical emergency, you can go straight to “urgencias” (emergency services). Like anywhere else, pediatricians are always very busy, so getting an appointment on the same day is not possible unless you’re extremely lucky. If you want to be seen by a medical professional quickly, it’s better to go directly to urgencias.
When you arrive at the hospital, go to reception and explain your problem. You will have to wait in the waiting room, and you’ll be seen by a doctor who will decide on the next steps. Generally speaking, the doctors speak English. The healthcare facilities are very good in Ibiza, and especially with children, the healthcare providers are very nice, patient, and professional!

For all emergencies, the emergency number is the same as in the rest of Europe 112.
If you need OTC medication, there are many pharmacies in Ibiza.
For kids, the most commonly used painkiller is Dalsy.
For any kind of bump, we use Arnica, also available at any pharmacy.
Ear infections are among the most common problems kids can get when on holiday. Prevention is always better than cure, as recovery typically takes a week, and neither antibiotics nor medication will speed up the healing process. We use “alcohol boricado” (available at any pharmacy) after every long swimming session. Try to remove water from the ears by cupping your hand over each ear and creating suction, or by shaking your head from side to side. Then put a few drops of the solution in each ear to kill bacteria, which should hopefully help prevent infection. Earplugs are always a good preventative solution if your little one is prone to ear infections.
